Guest Manual
1Before you arrive
What does OFF GRID mean?
The literal translation is "off the grid." Hutka is parked far from water, electricity or sewer connections — so you can truly enjoy being connected to nature. It also means resources are limited, but we maintain Hutka so you don't have to worry with reasonable use. Plus, we always have a plan B :-).
What's the climate like in Hutka?
Hutka has a pleasant climate all year round. In summer it can be warmer inside due to large glass surfaces, but it's well insulated with shading. Best to open the doors in summer and connect the living space with nature. The skylight quickly ventilates any heat. In winter, it's heated by a stove and underfloor gas heating.
What's the weather like in the Rychleby Mountains?
The Rychleby Mountains are among the warmest mountain areas in the Jeseníky region. Thanks to lower elevation and the foehn effect, it's typically 2–3 °C warmer. Summer days 22–28 °C, nights can drop below 10 °C.
Spring (Apr–May): Nature awakens, fewer tourists, 10–20 °C.
Summer (Jun–Aug): Ideal for hiking and cycling. Keep a rain jacket handy.
Autumn (Sep–Oct): Fall colors, mushroom picking, evenings by the fire. 8–18 °C.
Winter (Nov–Mar): Snowy landscape, cross-country skiing, romance by the stove. –5 to 5 °C.

Is Hutka suitable for families with children?
Yes and no — it depends on you and your children. Hutka is primarily designed for couples, but sleeping in the loft is an adventure for kids. Just watch the stairs, which are a bit steep. The surroundings also pose certain dangers, especially the overgrown ruins of old Johanka.
Can we bring pets?
No, pets are not allowed. We understand your four-legged friend is family, but we need to keep Hutka free of fur and mess. We also want allergy sufferers to feel comfortable.
Is smoking allowed in Hutka?
Smoking is only allowed outside. Smoking inside Hutka is prohibited.
Insects and wildlife?
Johanka sits in the middle of nature — mosquitoes, flies, ladybugs and various bugs are our local residents :-). We recommend repellent, especially in the evening.
Important: The Rychleby Mountains are an endemic tick area — check yourself after returning from nature.
You may encounter deer, foxes, hares, badgers and various bird species.
Is Hutka wheelchair accessible?
Honestly, no. The terrain is uneven (grass, gravel), there's a step onto the terrace, and more stairs inside (loft). Not suitable for people with limited mobility.
When is the best time to visit?
Every season has its charm. Spring (blooming nature, fewer tourists), summer (hiking, swimming, cycling), autumn (fall colors, mushrooms), winter (snowy landscape, cross-country skiing, stove romance).
In summer you don't need to limit electricity use; in winter every light counts.
The hot tub operates April–October (winter protection). Outdoor shower is drained in winter. Sauna and cooling tub operate year-round.
What to pack?
First check the "What you don't need to bring" section. Then we recommend:
• Sturdy hiking boots
• Swimwear for flooded quarries
• Headlamp or flashlight (path to car after dark)
• Warm clothing even in summer (mountain nights can be cold)
• Insect repellent and tick protection
• Enough food and drinks for hikes (nearest shop 5 km in Vidnava)
• Rain jacket / waterproof coat
• Offline maps on your phone (weak signal in some areas)

Where can we park?
You can drive all the way to the property and park on a gravel parking spot right next to Hutka.
How do we get the keys?
Keys are stored in a lockbox. We'll send you the code and location on the day of arrival.

5How Hutka works
Electricity
Where does it come from?
Solar panels on the roof, stored in batteries inside Hutka. Depends on weather — sun charges them; clouds and night don't.
How long do batteries last?
Average consumption is 35% of capacity per 24 hours. We hand over at 90%+. With conscious use, energy lasts a weekend even without sun.
What needs electricity?
Lighting, outlets, fridge, water pump and heating system.
Tip: Fridge is off by default (OFF). Leave it off if you don't need cooling — saves energy.
Water
Where does it come from?
Two tanks in Hutka's chassis.
How long does it last?
Summer: up to 900L (both tanks), winter: 600L. Couples use about 150–200L per weekend. Quick shower = ~30L per person. Outdoor shower runs from the well — virtually unlimited.
Is it drinkable?
Not recommended. Tanks are for utility water. Drinking water is in a glass barrel inside Hutka.
Can it be heated?
Yes. Solar heater covers hand/dish washing. For showering, turn on the Truma heater 10–15 min before. Hot water flows ~5 min. Turn back to OFF after.
Drainage:
Wastewater goes into a root soakaway under Hutka. Use ONLY eco-friendly products provided.
Heating
Options:
• Gas hot-air heating — digital panel, set your temperature.
• Wood stove — keeps you warm in any weather, adds atmosphere. Be careful adding wood — heats up fast and radiates long.
⚠ We strongly recommend: Underfloor heating overnight, turn off stove before bed. Gas heating maintains constant temperature. Recommended sleeping temp 16–18 °C.
How is heat produced?
TRUMA system draws gas from LPG bottles in the outdoor technical compartment.
What runs on gas?
Stove, underfloor heating and incineration toilet.
Incineration toilet
Really?!
Yes! It's a marvel :-). The exhaust system means absolutely no smell.
How to use?
ALWAYS place a PAPER FILTER inside the bowl. The toilet vacuums your product with the filter and incinerates it to ash. One filter per use.
Operation:
Lift the seat = activation (two beeps). When done, press the green-framed button → incineration starts (yellow button).
How long is a cycle?
~1 hour. Yellow button turns off = done.
Can someone go during incineration?
Yes, handles 2–3 loads per cycle. Incineration pauses and continues.
Cleaning:
NEVER pour water in or scrape with metal.
Empty the ash?
No, we handle that.
Ventilation
Hutka is well insulated and has high-quality windows, so we recommend keeping windows in the micro-ventilation position.
The bathroom is ventilated through a window, but also by a fan that runs for 5 minutes when you press the marked switch.
The extractor above the stove is controlled by the same switch — the same circuit as the bathroom.
6Storage spaces
Storage spaces
Hutka has plenty of hidden storage — you just need to explore. Behind the mirror you'll find a cabinet with shelves, under the chaise longue there are pull-out armrests with storage behind them, under the sofa there are flip-up compartments for shoes, and more. A wardrobe and several other cabinets are at your disposal.
7What to do when something doesn't work
Batteries dead (0% electricity)?
We still have the stove, flashlight and candles in the equipment.
Water ran out?
Call us. We'll check for leaks and refill your tank. Close all faucets to prevent air in the system.
Gas ran out?
We provide one full backup bottle. If experienced, you can swap it yourself. Otherwise call us. For longer stays (week+), a swap may be needed.
Toilet keeps beeping and flashing?
Restart it — hold the incineration button for 5 seconds. You'll hear a long beep, then repeat the process. If unresponsive, call us.
Filter stuck in the toilet?
Open the lid and press the incineration button. The bowl opens — push the paper down. It will burn in the next cycle.
Can I put toilet paper in the toilet?
Yes, it's designed for that. Don't worry, it all burns. Just don't unroll the entire roll at once — be reasonable.
Wet wipes or feminine hygiene products in the toilet?
Better not — it could prolong incineration and isn't eco-friendly. Use the small bin next to the toilet.
My product didn't fall down?
The trapdoor clicked but it stayed up? Pour about 2 dcl of water directly into the paper filter (not outside it) and try again.
Steam in the bathroom?
Press the bottom black switch on the central panel (near lights). Ventilation runs for ~1 minute. Or simply open the window :-).
Something buzzing in the back when I turn on water?
That's the pump — it's normal. If it buzzes even when water isn't running, call us.
Something else not working?
Let us know — we'll do our best to help.
